About Us/History
Our Vision: The vision of Goldfinch Enterprises and Goldfinchtraining.biz is to provide the
highest quality diversity training and consultation based on sound principles of applied
anthropology. The unique approach provided in our diversity training is best described in the
motto, "This is not your grandmother's diversity training". This is exciting, innovative, and
immensely usable training. Through community asset mapping, visual diagramming, and
other techniques the aim of the training is to aid clients to fully institutionalize diversity in their
organizations and lives. This is an organization dedicated to the application of sound
anthropology and science in the service of communities and people and to be socially
responsible.

The training is based on sound concepts for developing cultural competency, anthropology,
and sociology with an emphasis on developing organization implementation and change.
This is not faddish diversity training and it has been proven to be a practical and positive
way of teaching diversity that has already received positive client feedback.
Goldfinch Enterprises arose from the experiences and research of its founder, Dr. Rosina
Hassoun. Rosina (Rose for her close friends and clients) is an anthropologist with a Ph.D.
in anthropology from the University of Florida, Gainesville. She also has undergraduate
degrees that include a B.S. and M.S. from Texas A&M University. Her doctoral research was
conducted on health and acculturation issues in ethnic communities in Detroit, Michigan.
Upon receiving her doctorate, she spent two years as a clinical anthropologist working in
hospital coordinating a large mobile children's immunization project and the county
immunization registry committee of over 30 health agencies. The charity immunization
project provided tens of thousands of vaccinations in communities of color and in rural and
urban areas.
Dr. Hassoun returned to academics part-time, but not before launching her own diversity
training business. At the same time, she was teaching classes in anthropology, ethnicity,
and race and undertook a major funded research project in an ethnic community in
Cleveland. Dr. Hassoun has traveled extensively and lived in Mexico, Europe (France and
Spain), the Middle East and North Africa, and of course in the United States and Canada.
She speaks four languages. Her experience and research formed the basis for her training.
Taking the business from live trainings to on-line courses is the natural process of growth.
"I couldn't physically clone myself to be able to do the teaching at the university I love and
continue to grow the business I see as being vitally important. Going on-line is the natural
outgrowth of my previous training and a solution to trying to be everywhere at once. I have
also been asked why Goldfinch Enterprises is an LLC for-profit, rather than a non-profit
organization. The overhead for many non-profits is very high and I can actually provide more
cost efficient training as an LLC. In hard financial times, people have cut on training and the
vital information that combats racism is not getting out to the work place. Also, small
businesses and many non-profits cannot afford the higher priced trainings- so
communities of color, small businesses, and non-profits suffer. My goal in my researh and
life is to try to be socially responsible to the communities I research and for which I conduct
advocacy - so now my challenge will be to find a way for this LLC to be socially responsible.
As Goldfinch Enterprises LLC grows, there will be community projects and other ways I will
seek to give back to communities."
So why the bird? There is a history to the logo. The founder's last name means goldfinch in
English. It is her personal lucky charm. It brings the company good fortune. In addition, did
you know that the goldfinches are one of the few truly social bird specie around? The
goldfinch loves to associate with other birds. The cheery gold and black birds with the
sweet song crave the company of other birds. What better symbol for quality diversity
training?
